Happy last day of August, my friends. I am absolutely thrilled right now because I started off this month with a few not-so-great reads but then I found some stuff I completely fell in love with. I was so desperate to read something amazing, and let me tell you, I was very excited to have finally found something that was. AHH. Okay, but here’s everything I did read this month:
Circe by Madeline Miller
I technically started this in July, but I’ll count it here since I finished it up at the beginning of August. Thinking back on it, I’m still a little disappointed by this book, even though it was beautifully written. You can read my review of Circe here if you want to find out why I thought it didn’t live up to the hype (still hurts to say that tbh).
This is Kind of An Epic Love Story by Kheryn Callender
Ooh I was excited when I received this ARC from Edelweiss because it sounded SO CUTE. More sadness though because this book wasn’t as good as I thought it’d be either. It was cute though. And I still love Ollie, like, a whole lot. You can read my review if you’re interested in a book with lots of sweet moments, diversity, and a unique storyline.
The Upside of Unrequited by Becky Albertalli
I’ve been wanting to read this one for a while, and I’m happy that I finally did, because I really enjoyed it. It wasn’t my favorite of Becky Albertalli’s, and I had a couple issues with it, but it was still super great. Definetly both hilarious and heartwarming. My review of this one can be found here if you’re wanting to hear more of what I thought!
Heartstopper by Alice Oseman
This is a webcomic created by the incredible Alice Oseman and it’s basically the cutest thing that’s ever existed. Nick and Charlie are PRECIOUS and I LOVE them. If you haven’t read this, and you’re in the mood for something very sweet, please check this out. You can read it on either Tumblr or Tapas.
A Darker Shade of Magic by Victoria Schwab
THIS IS IT YOU GUYS, THE SERIES THAT IS CURRENTLY RUINING MY LIFE. I mean I know you all said this was good but I have… a lot of emotions. I seriously had some kind of transcendent experience reading this. Between the world building, the writing, the characters; this is the best book I’ve read this month, and it’ll be one of my favorites of the year. For sure. Also I have so much love for Rhy Maresh I can’t even take it.
A Gathering of Shadows by Victoria Schwab
This one moved a bit slower, but the build up to that ending was insane. Also that cliffhanger was absolutely brutal. I don’t even have proper words. I really enjoyed getting to know the characters better in this one, and of course, meeting Alucard was the greatest. I’m a MESS.
And that’s it! Like I said, the first part of the month started off a little disappointing. I was so desperate for something to just completely blow me away, so I was really glad to have found some stuff I fell in love with by the end of the month.
I also just want to take a moment to remind you guys to that these wrap ups aren’t meant to make us feel upset about what we didn’t accomplish this month. I know it can be hard not to compare yourself to other readers right now, with all the wrap ups and TBRs out there, but please try not focus too much on the numbers. If you didn’t feel like you read or posted enough this month, I want to tell you this: the number of books you read or number of posts you put out do not define you as a reader or as a blogger. You’re all doing more than enough. Just something to keep in mind.❤️
Alright, I am now off to go read A Conjuring of Light!! I hope you guys had a wonderful August, and that you have even better September. 🙂
