Leaving a good series unfinished is one of my least favorite things, but sadly, I’ve done it far too often. There are quite a few that I’ve started and never continued for whatever reason. Sometimes it was because the series was incomplete when I started it, and by the time the next book came out, I had forgotten what had happened or lost interest. Other times, I just wasn’t in the mood for the next one. Or I had other things to read.
But, if I’m being honest, I really have no good excuses for not finishing these series yet. I should’ve read these by now. *hides in shame*
I mean, to be clear, I didn’t abandon these because I wanted to. Quite the opposite, actually. They’re all worth continuing, and some I’m even desperate to keep reading. I just… haven’t yet. And I really, really need to. Like, seriously need to.
Here are those series that I never continued, but I know I definetly should:
The Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater
WHY haven’t I finished this? I consider TRC to be one of my all time favorite series, but I have yet to read all of The Raven King. I’ve read bits and pieces of it, and I know that one of my ships sailed at the end (YES), and I’ve even read the short story Opal. I still haven’t read TRK cover to cover though, which is a problem. BUT my goal is to finally read it before the end of 2018 and I’m very, VERY excited.
Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi
Ahhh I love this series and I’m still so surprised that Tahereh Mafi continued it! I read it back when it was still a trilogy, right after Ignite Me came out, and would’ve never expected that one day there’d be more books in this series. I own Restore Me, but I’ve been reluctant to pick it up because of mixed reviews. I mean, I know I’ll read it eventually, but I’m just trying not to get overly hyped about it (even though I am).
Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin
Another series I was REALLY in to in high school. These are hard to put down. As in, I’m pretty sure I read the second book in one sitting. To be honest though, I don’t really know how great these are now. Looking back on it, I think the romance might’ve been problematic? I don’t know. I still kinda want to find out what happens in the last book because the second one ended on an intense cliffhanger.
The Dark Artifices by Cassandra Clare
I AM SAD AND I AM ASHAMED. There is actually a Shadowhunters book out there in the world that I HAVE NOT READ. I never thought I’d say that. But it’s true: I haven’t read Lord of Shadows yet. I have no excuses, just pure and utter shame. I’ve been desperate to read it. DESPERATE. But since I’ve already put it off for so long, and I hear there’s quite a cliffhanger at the end, I’m going to wait to read it until closer to the release of QoAaD at this point.
The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken
I kinda forgot about this series, but after The Darkest Minds movie came out this year, I remembered that this was actually pretty good. It was never my favorite, but I am curious to find out what happens in In The After Light. I’d probably have to reread the first two since it’s been a loooong time, but still, I think this one might be worth finishing up at some point.
The Heroes of Olympus by Rick Riordan
Again, I’m ashamed. I started reading The Lost Hero a couple years ago, but then I started college, and things got too hectic. But I’m sad. Like, have I ever talked about how much I L O V E Percy Jackson? When I was a kid, that series was on the same level for me as Harry Potter. I’ve read it at least 3 times through and I once spent 4 hours waiting in line to meet Rick Riordan. So the fact that there’s an ENTIRE series that takes place in the same world?? I’m so beyond happy about it, but I NEED TO READ IT ALREADY.
