Series I Stopped Reading, But Really Want to Continue

Leaving a good series unfinished is one of my least favorite things, but sadly, I’ve done it far too often. There are quite a few that I’ve started and never continued for whatever reason. Sometimes it was because the series was incomplete when I started it, and by the time the next book came out, I had forgotten what had happened or lost interest. Other times, I just wasn’t in the mood for the next one. Or I had other things to read.

But, if I’m being honest, I really have no good excuses for not finishing these series yet. I should’ve read these by now. *hides in shame*

I mean, to be clear, I didn’t abandon these because I wanted to. Quite the opposite, actually. They’re all worth continuing, and some I’m even desperate to keep reading. I just… haven’t yet. And I really, really need to. Like, seriously need to.

Here are those series that I never continued, but I know I definetly should:

The Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater

7C0C2461-64BB-4018-8E9F-183670B14F4C.jpegWHY haven’t I finished this? I consider TRC to be one of my all time favorite series, but I have yet to read all of The Raven King. I’ve read bits and pieces of it, and I know that one of my ships sailed at the end (YES), and I’ve even read the short story Opal. I still haven’t read TRK cover to cover though, which is a problem. BUT my goal is to finally read it before the end of 2018 and I’m very, VERY excited.

Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi

Ahhh I love this series and I’m still so surprised that Tahereh Mafi continued it! I read it back when it was still a trilogy, right after Ignite Me came out, and would’ve never expected that one day there’d be more books in this series. I own Restore Me, but I’ve been reluctant to pick it up because of mixed reviews. I mean, I know I’ll read it eventually, but I’m just trying not to get overly hyped about it (even though I am).

Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin

Another series I was REALLY in to in high school. These are hard to put down. As in, I’m pretty sure I read the second book in one sitting. To be honest though, I don’t really know how great these are now. Looking back on it, I think the romance might’ve been problematic? I don’t know. I still kinda want to find out what happens in the last book because the second one ended on an intense cliffhanger.

The Dark Artifices by Cassandra Clare

I AM SAD AND I AM ASHAMED. There is actually a Shadowhunters book out there in the world that I HAVE NOT READ. I never thought I’d say that. But it’s true: I haven’t read Lord of Shadows yet. I have no excuses, just pure and utter shame. I’ve been desperate to read it. DESPERATE. But since I’ve already put it off for so long, and I hear there’s quite a cliffhanger at the end, I’m going to wait to read it until closer to the release of QoAaD at this point.

The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken

I kinda forgot about this series, but after The Darkest Minds movie came out this year, I remembered that this was actually pretty good. It was never my favorite, but I am curious to find out what happens in In The After Light. I’d probably have to reread the first two since it’s been a loooong time, but still, I think this one might be worth finishing up at some point.

The Heroes of Olympus by Rick Riordan

Again, I’m ashamed. I started reading The Lost Hero a couple years ago, but then I started college, and things got too hectic. But I’m sad. Like, have I ever talked about how much I L O V E Percy Jackson? When I was a kid, that series was on the same level for me as Harry Potter. I’ve read it at least 3 times through and I once spent 4 hours waiting in line to meet Rick Riordan. So the fact that there’s an ENTIRE series that takes place in the same world?? I’m so beyond happy about it, but I NEED TO READ IT ALREADY.

I’d love to know:

Have you read any of these? Which of these series do you think I absolutely NEED to continue? What series have you abandoned, but still want to finish?

      1. Same! I’ve been so hesitant to pick up Restore Me since I loved the ending of the original trilogy. And I just haven’t been in the mindset for Lord of Shadows, but I think I’m getting there! I hope you love them when you read them!

      2. Right?? The original trilogy ended so well so I’ve been hesitant to read Restore Me. And same, I’m definitely feeling the hype for Lord of Shadows again so I’m excited 🙂
Thank you, hope you enjoy them too!!

  1. Ive has Lady Midnight on my shelf since it was released, and I’ve still not read it! I’ve heard good things about it I’ve just not got around to it yet it seems! Also I started The Darkest Minds and Shatter Me and never picked up books 2 or 3 of either, I’ll have to reread them first before continuing on with either series!

    1. Ooh Lady Midnight is super good! Have you read the other Shadowhunter books?
And yeah I’d probably have to do a reread of Shatter Me and The Darkest Minds before continuing them as well! It’s been a while lol.

Yesss I really want to finish TRC as well. What I’ve read so far is SO GOOD, and I just need to get to it already lol.
Thanks for your comment, Paige! 💗

  2. I was thinking about this the other day. Great minds think alike haha. I loathe DNFing books. So not finishing a series makes me a little nuts lol. But it’s like you said, I haven’t continued with them for various reasons. The only series on your list that I’ve read is TDA lol. I’m all caught up with that one though. Phew! Well, until December rolls around with the last book.

    1. Ugh same!! DNFing a good series is the worst, because I always find myself thinking “well I wonder what ended up happening??” So I can very much relate. And ahh TDA is so great… at least what I’ve read so far! I hope you love Queen of Air and Darkness when it comes out 🙂 Happy reading!!❤️

  3. SO MUCH LOVE FOR THIS POST. 😍I hope you get to keep reading Heroes of Olympus, it takes a little bit for it to get going (in my opinion), but once it does…I just love the world Rick Riordan has created and all the characters and PERCABETH so much, my little bookworm heart can’t even stand it.

I’m reading the Raven Cycle series right now! I’m sort of at a standstill for it, too, I’ve read the first two books and just haven’t checked out the third from the library yet. I’m obsessed with Gansey though, and all the other characters, too. (But…mostly Gansey.)

    1. Aw thank you Olivia, you’re so sweet!!💞 Aghh I am dying to continue Heroes of Olympus😭 Percabeth was my original OTP & I need them back in my life!!

I’m glad I’m not the only one who hasn’t finished TRC! I don’t know why I haven’t though. Like I LOOOVE the characters (honestly Gansey is too good for this world) and it’s really a great series. Here’s to hoping we both pick it back up at some point😅 Lol happy reading, and thanks for the comment!!💗

      1. Percabeth is the best EVER, and I can promise there is so, SO much Percabeth in Heroes of Olympus. 😉 *waves book tantalizingly*

Haha, yes, I hope we both pick it back up! I could scream about Gansey all day honestly, he’s just that perfect.

      2. Ughhh I can’t believe I’ve been missing out on Percabeth content!! I need to read this series immediately. And SAME, Gansey is worth screaming about all day every day hahaha!

    1. Ahh hope you end up enjoying those when you get the chance to read them! And I know right?? It’s so difficult to keep up with new series and old favorites!

  4. I read the first book of a Shatter Me and at first enjoyed it; but as the book went on I started to feel like not much happened and that there wasn’t character or setting description. I want to continue with the series though, because I feel like the pace might start to happen in the second book! I want to give the book a try as I’ve heard many people like the series 😊

    1. I know exactly what you mean about Shatter Me! I always try to encourage people to continue on with the series even though the first one isn’t the best. Unravel Me was better, and Ignite Me was absolutely excellent! If you ever get the chance to read the rest of the series, I’d definitely recommend it 🙂

    1. I hope you’re loving Heroes of Olympus!! I’m so, SO excited to finally read it. And yeah the Darkest Mind is definitely good! It was never a huge favorite of mine, but I’d say it’s worth the read for sure😊 Enjoy!
