T5W: Books I’m Determined to Read Before The End of the Year

Top 5 Wednesday (T5W) is a weekly meme created by Lainey (gingerreadslainey) and is now hosted by Sam (ThoughtsOnTomes). You can check out the Goodreads group here.

Today’s prompt for T5W is ‘Books You Want to Read Before 2019’ and I thought this would probably be a good idea for me to do. Because I just realized a few days ago that I have no idea what I plan to read after I’m done with this month’s reads. But alas, T5W has come to help me and I now have some sort of an idea! (I think.)

This list won’t include any books on my November TBR, so really this is kind of a sneak peek of a few books I have planned for my December TBR!

Queen of Air and Darkness by Cassandra Clare

Okay, so this is at least one I’m not iffy about, but one I am going to read. Like, as soon as it comes out. This is my most anticipated release of the year and words cannot describe how excited I am to be back in the Shadowhunter world. Cassie Clare is probably going to make us all suffer though and I am not ready for that!

The Cruel Prince by Holly Black

I’ve been putting this one off for a while now because I’m kind of… really scared to read it. The reviews are mixed and they are INTENSE. It seems like everyone either passionately loves this one or aggressively hates it. But since the sequel is coming out in January, I figure it’s time I just go for it and see what all the hype/hate is about.

I Was Born For This by Alice Oseman

Oh, I want to read this so badly. I’m about 100% sure I’m going to love this with my whole heart because of all the praise and, well, it’s Alice Oseman. The only reason I haven’t gotten to it yet is because it isn’t available in the US and I still haven’t ordered it to be shipped internationally. Which is going to take a bit. So I should go do that. Like right now.

(Don’t) Call Me Crazy

Ahh I have been LOVING this anthology, but I have got to finish it already. I’ve already read a few essays (they’re so heartbreaking, but empowering, and I love them). This is one of those books I’ve been picking up here and there, so I have a good feeling I’ll have it done before 2019!

Enchantée by Grita Trelease

This is an early 2019 release that I recently received as an ARC and I am HYPED to read it. It’s fantasy and historical fiction, set in Paris in 1789, which sounds absolutely epic. I have plans to read at least a few ARCs before the end of this year (especially those coming out in January/February) so I have high hopes I’ll get this one in.

I’d love to know

What books do you plan to read before the end of the year? Have you read any on this list? Should I be afraid to read The Cruel Prince?!

  1. I’ve got a couple of books I picked up for Halloween (Feed and If We Were Villains) that I still haven’t read so I’m really hoping to get through those before 2019!
I’ve had The Cruel Prince on my Kindle for a while now but I’m also a little scared to read it. Hopefully it lives up to the hype for both of us! 😊

  3. I was a little so-so about The Cruel Prince in the sense that I ended up giving it 4 stars instead of 5, because I found the hype a little overreacting. I would recommend trying to block out the hype as much as possible when reading it, and don’t let it bring your expectations too high! Despite the crazy hype that might make you think it’s a book way better than it actually is, it still is a really good book with some great world-building and character development which I enjoyed reading, and I hope you enjoy it too 🙂

    1. Ahh thank you so much for sharing this! I appreciate it💖 I think that would definitely be a good idea to go in with lower expectations just so I don’t let the hype get to me. I’m so glad to hear it’s still a good read though – I’m looking forward to it! 😊

  4. I’m not ready for QOAAD either ahh. The Cruel Prince was a good read but I didn’t love it as much as everyone else. Guess I’m in between haha. I really want to read Alice Oseman’s Radio Silence! Hope you enjoy I Was Born for This!

    1. Agh QOOAD is going to be a lot to deal with, I just know it😭 Ooh okay I’m glad to hear from someone who thought The Cruel Prince was just okay – usually it seems like everyone either LOVES it or HATES it, but I have a feeling I’ll end up agreeing with you lol! And oh my goodness you should definitely read Radio Silence whenever you get the chance! I couldn’t recommend it enough💗 thanks for your comment Cindy!!

    1. Yaaay I’m so glad to hear Enchantée is good – I cannot WAIT to read it! And ahh yes I am super looking forward to I Was Born For This☺️ thanks Chloe!

  5. I get what you mean about The Cruel Prince. People seem to have such strong feelings about this one! I personally loved it and was surprised at the intense dislike some people had for it. But, in most of those cases, these people gave up on the book way too fast, in my opinion. If you like stories about anti-heroes and their redemption, then I think you’d like this it.

    1. Awesome, thank you so much for telling me this Raya !! This gives me more hope that I’ll enjoy it 🙂 I absolutely love antiheroes and redemption arcs – those are always some of my favorites!
