My Top Ten Most Anticipated 2019 Releases

Hello & happy Friday! I’m very excited for today’s post because I’m going to be sharing some books I’m hyped to read in 2019. YAAAY for new releases!

I genuinely cannot believe how many excellent books are coming in to existence next year. 2019 is going to be full of endless faves, and in all honesty, I have never been more excited about a list of upcoming books in my entire life. I’m very, very, very much looking forward to all of these.

First I’m going to share the top ten books I’m anticipating (in order from least to greatest) and then I’ll also include some honorable mentions afterwards!

Okay let’s do this:

10. The Great Unknowable End by Kathryn Ormsbee

Image result for the great unknowable end book cover

For some reason, ever since I came across this book, I haven’t been able to stop thinking about it. It appears to be a unique mixture of magical realism and historical fiction, PLUS it includes representation for mental health and neurodiversity (yay!). The entire concept of this is so very intriguing to me and it sounds exactly like a story I’m going to fall in love with.

Release date: February 29th, 2019

9. Wicked Saints by Emily A Duncan

I’ve been seeing this book around for ages, but only recently looked up what it’s about… and now I want to read it immediately. The synopsis alone has me desperate to read it. Supposedly this is some kind of dark fantasy that involves a trio of characters who have to assassinate a king and stop a war? Sign me uppp.

Release Date: April 2, 2019

7. The Devouring Gray by Christine Lynn Herman

80F41951-0E20-45F9-A173-7C5FF88A8358

This book is some sort of mix between Stranger Things and The Raven Boys, which isn’t something I knew I needed, but now that it exists, it’s everything I ever I wanted and more. In this article, it’s described as “a contemporary fantasy that follows a group of teens with chilling secrets and unnatural power who must battle a monster to save their town.” I’m already sold, folks. SOLD.

Release Date: April 2, 2019

7. Again, But Better by Christine Riccio

Typing the words ‘by Chritine Riccio’ just made my heart soar. I’ve been watching Christine on Booktube since 2014 and she is quite literally one of my favorite people on this planet. I’m just so proud of her for writing a BOOK. And it sounds so GOOD! It’s a story that involves college and finding yourself and the general complications that come with becoming an adult. This is already relating to me too much!

Release Date: May 7, 2019

6. I Wish You All The Best by Mason Deaver

First of all, this cover is a work of art. Second of all, this story sounds incredible, but also like it’ll shatter my heart in a million pieces. This follows a nonbinary teen navigating life, friendship, and romance after being thrown out of their house by their parents. There’s also rep for an anxiety disorder, which always means the world to me. I already love this powerful and beautifully diverse book.

Release Date: May 14, 2019

5. The Gilded Wolves by Roshani Chokshi

This book! Okay, this sounds too good. It’s set in Paris in the late 1800’s, involves a misfit group of characters, some kind of adventure, and a magical artifact. That’s about all I needed to know to preorder this one. And this also just gives me so many Six of Crows vibes, and that’s a sure sign I’ll love it. I’m absolutely dying to read this one.

Release Date: January 15, 2019

4. King of Scars by Leigh Bardugo

Ever since I read the Grisha trilogy, I have been so ridiculously hyped for this. There are very few characters in this world that I love as much as Nikolai Lantsov, and the fact that we are getting a whole duology about him is kind of the greatest thing ever. And as if it couldn’t get any better, this book also features some of my fave iconic Grisha girls, Zoya and Nina! I’m beyond ready for this. Also this cover gives me chills, it’s so epic.

Release Date: January 29, 2019

3. The Red Scrolls of Magic by Cassandra Clare and Wesley Chu

Dreams do come true because we are getting an entire series about Alec and Magnus, and this first book is only a few months away. I’ve adored these two since The Mortal Instruments, and it is so extremely special that there is going to be a series about them. This is the type of Shadowhunters content that is going to make my life and I would like it to be April right now please.

Release Date: April 2, 2019

2. Wayward Son by Rainbow Rowell

This was supposed to come out in 2020, but Rainbow Rowell has blessed us all and confirmed that this will indeed come out next year! Carry On is one of those books I love with my entire being and I just never imagined a day that there would be a sequel. I well and truly cried when this book was announced (I’m just… really excited, okay?). I cannot wait for the cover reveal, and for the release date, and of course, for this book that is certainly going to join my favorites.

Release Date: TBA

1. Chain of Gold by Cassandra Clare

75CBA8E8-C9E9-46C5-A362-FBE1CBD786D7

This… still doesn’t feel, and I’ve been trying to convince myself it’s actually happening. This is the first book in The Last Hours series, a sequel to the series of my heart, The Infernal Devices. And it is my single most anticipated release of all time. I’ve been waitings so many years to read it, and I cannot believe we now have a COVER (and a gorgeous one at that – Cordelia is looking fierce) and a RELEASE DATE. This book will be in my hands next year and I’ve honestly never, in my entire life, been more excited for anything.

Release Date: November 19, 2019

And that is it for my ten most anticipated releases! I’m still reeling because of this list. There are just too many good books coming out, and it’s just going to be the absolute best year of reading.

I also have tons and tons of other books I’m looking forward to in 2019, so I’d thought I’d share some honorable mentions:

Also! Some of my favorite authors have the following books (maybe?) coming out in 2019. There’s not much information yet so I’m not 100% sure if these will be released next year, but I’ll include them anyway because I am full of excitement:

Okay that was a LOT of books but I cannot even tell how excited I am for each and every one of these! It feels like such a great time for YA. I could not be more proud of these authors or more excited for our community to get their hands on these new releases.

I hope you all have the best weekend, and that you’ve also been getting hyped for all of the 2019 books that are coming our way! ❤️❤️❤️

I’d love to know

What 2019 releases have you been anticipating? Any I mentioned in this post?! What other 2019 releases do you think I need to add to my TBR?

  2. AGH I NEED SO MANY OF THESE BOOKS!!! I OBVIOUSLY need those last four, as you know, but I NEED SO MANY OF THE OTHERS AS WELL! The Gilded Wolves sounds sooooo good! And so does Wicked Saints!

And I think I Wish You All The Best is going to be just spectacular!

And THE DEVOURING GREY. It’s one of my most anticipated releases for sure, because OH MY GOSH IT SOUNDS SO GOOD! I’ve been following the author on twitter for a few months, and every single time she tweets anything even vaguely related to it I need it even more! I am so here for this creepy queer book.

I also really desperately want The Boy Who Steals Houses, and the sequel to Ace of Shades!

There are going to be SO many good books out in 2019.

    1. Omg Iris I cannot even COMPREHEND these books that are coming out next year. When I listed those top 4 I was like… how is this even happening?? I’m extra excited for you to read Red Scrolls because I know Malec is your fave lol. But yes Wicked Saints and The Gilded Wolves sound so epic and I’m dying to read thoseee!

I Wish You All The Best sounds too beautiful and all the rep makes my heart so happy and I also think it’s going to emotionally RUIN me but I cannot wait.

YESSS I LOVE reading Christine Lynn Herman’s tweets about The Devouring Gray too! I’m so intrigued by this book and I hope we both end up loving it.

I’m also looking forward to The Boy Who Steals Houses (I still gotta read A Thousand Perfect Notes too) and ooh I did not know Ace of Shades had a sequel coming out but I’ll have to read the first one! I have lots of books to read lol.

      1. I don’t even know how we are being blessed with SO MANY WONDERFUL BOOKS IN 2019! It’s going to be AMAZING. And yesssss I’m so hyped for all the Malec content! And I’m so happy you’ll finally be getting more Will! (I mean, I love him too, but I don’t think my love for him could possibly compare to yours 😂)

I swear everything about The Devouring Gray just sounds fantastic and I NEED it! So hyped!!

A Thousand Perfect Notes is soooooo beautiful! Incredibly painful, but so so so good! It’s definitely worth a read! And The Boy Who Steals Houses sounds soooooooo good! And yes, the sequel to Ace of Shades is coming… sometime in the spring I think? And it sounds super good. I mean basically all I know of it is it’s about criminal girl gangs, but I’m SO HERE FOR THAT.

        Liked by 1 person

      2. The fact that you’re getting more Malec content and I’m getting more Will content in 2019 is too good to be true. I JUST LOVE THIS FOR US😭

Okay adding to the list of books I need to read in 2019: A Thousand Perfect Notes, The Boy Who Steals Houses, Ace of Shades, and then that sequel because criminal girl gangs?? UM… YES. I’ll get to all of these. I MUST get to all of these.

  3. Ahh I feel so behind with the releases. I’m excited for sequels of some books I haven’t even read yet, like Carry On, or King of Scars (I’ve only read the first 2 books of the Grisha Triology so far). But I’m really anticipating The Devouring Gray and Again, But Better as well. I guess my most anticipated release is The Wicked King though, but I don’t have to wait long for it.

You know, I dream of the day I’ll actually catch up with the Shadowhunters releases. I’ve only read up to Clockwork Angel (in publication order), but I wish I could read the red scrolls cause I love Malec.

    1. Oh my goodness SAME, I also get excited for sequels to books I haven’t read yet! I’m seriously hyped for The Wicked King even though I have yet to pick up TCP lol. I just have a feeling I’ll love it. And ooh I hope you end up enjoying Carry On and the rest of the Grisha trilogy when you get around to those !!

Awh yeah there’s SO MANY Shadowhunters books out now😅 I’ve been reading them since the last TMI book was released but I can imagine it’s intimidating to be reading them with all the books that are currently out.
I adore Malec too! I hope you’re able to catch up soon but also there’s no rush – all the books will still be there whenever you get around to them!

The blurb’s super interesting and the cover is #goals And Chain of Gold’s cover is gorgeous, isn’t it? (and I keep seeing more Cassandra Clare books get released…I have so many of her books to read to catch up 😉 )

  6. Wait there’s going to be a fourth Legend book?!? This is the first I’ve heard about that. Might have to give that series another try just because it’s Marie Lu, even though I didn’t like it much the first time. Personally I can’t wait for The Wicked King (only a few weeks left!!!) and Stephanie Garber’s Finale springs to mind as well. I only wish I had more time to read–realistically I know I’m not going to get through the majority of these books just because I’m so bad with time management 😥

    Liked by 1 person

    1. YES! I was so surprised that Marie Lu was continuing Legend. I agree – I really enjoyed the series, but it wasn’t a huge favorite and I kinda want to revisit it soon to see if I like it any more. Ooh I haven’t read The Cruel Prince yet (I plan to before TWK!) but I’m so excited! I hope you love the sequel. And oh yeah Finale is coming out! I’m definitely going to have to read Caraval in 2019.

Thanks so much for your comment! I hope you’ve been doing well and that you enjoy all the books you plan to read next year💞

    1. Thank youuu! I’m so hyped about these books. And ooh Aurora Rising – I need to add that to my TBR. I actually haven’t read anything by Jay Kristoff yet but I DO have plans to read Illuminae and Nevernight this year 🙂

      Liked by 1 person

      1. Aurora Rising takes place in the same “multiverse” as Illuminae so I’d rec those first! I can’t wait to start Nevernight but I’m not sure when to start for the finale this fall?! 😆
